Recommended Free Downloads

Downloads are one of the biggest causes of spyware and unwanted computer problems. You should never download programs you've never heard of, or from web sites you don't trust. If in doubt do a search about the program to see what other people think. There are however some great programs out there that should be downloaded and can really enhance your computer. We recommend some of these below.

	Mozy is a free online backup service. It's very simple to install and configure and will backup your documents over your broadband for free. It's just as easy to restore any documents if you lose them. You'll also find an inbuilt scheduling function so you don't even have to remember to run it.
	SPAMfighter Standard SpamFighter is a free tool for Outlook, Outlook Express and Windows Mail that automatically and efficiently filters spam and phishing fraud. It's also easy to use.

	Windows Defender Full Version A free program that helps protect your computer against pop-ups, slow performance, and security threats caused by spyware and other unwanted software. It features Real-Time Protection, a monitoring system that recommends actions against spyware when it's detected.
	Skype Skype is a little program which allows you to use your broadband connection to make phone calls. These are completely free to other Skype users, and by buying Skype out credit you can make very cheap calls to normal phones. You can also buy normal phones and handsets so once setup its the same as using a normal phone. Try it out for free!
	Seterra Geography tutor and game Learn about countries, capitals, flags and cities in Africa, Europe, South America, North America, Asia and Australia, using fun games! Excellent for anyone in school particularly Keystage 2 and 3, or just wanting to do better in the pub quiz!
	Google Picasa Truly excellent, free software from google which helps you organise and edit your photos. Every time you open Picasa, it will automatically locate all your pictures (even ones you forgot you had) and sorts them into visual albums organised by date with folder names you will recognise.
	Microsoft PhotoStory 3 This software makes stunning videos from your photos. Add a sound track and some captions and you can truly bring your memories to life. Once again totally free! This is also one of the easiest programs you'll ever use. Ideal for creating holiday memory CDs to share with friends and family.
